You never know what you are going to find in a file folder labeled “Clippings.”
Or in a blog post.
This is where I post vintage materials from the Mountain Bike Legacy Project, which primarily covers the years from 1970 to 1990.
There is no order here other that what I found in the files recently. I tried to collect every printed word about mountain biking before 1990, when it became impossible to keep up. Now I am happy to share it with anyone who finds the site.

This issue features the first ever Kamikaze Downhill at Mammoth Mountain.
This issue takes a look at the 1986 model year of mountain bikes, one American, the rest English: Specialized Rockhopper, Muddy Fox Monarch, Dawes Ranger, Ridgeback XT, Eclipse Canyon, Maverick Super ATB, Renegade and Overburys Puma. Includes spec lists.
I was hired to announce the Ross Stage Race. I think the organizers knew I would cash it in further by writing a story for Winning.
Win-win.
This issue of cyclist had a great lineup, a story about Crested Butte, Jacquie Phelan races a horse in Wales, my story about riding in Canada’s Northwest Territory.
Then there are reviews of the 1986 Fisher Montare, Specialized StumpJumper and Ritchey Ascent. Finally, the editor weighs in with, you guessed it, an editorial.
