This is where I post vintage materials from the Mountain Bike Legacy Project, which primarily covers the years from 1970 to 1990.
There is no order here other that what I found in the files recently. I tried to collect every printed word about mountain biking before 1990, when it became impossible to keep up. Now I am happy to share it with anyone who finds the site.

In 1987 there were two “World Championships” for mountain bikers, one in California, and the other in France. Americans won both of them,
Ned Overend won both versions, in the men’s cross-country. Mary Lee Atkins took the European women’s version, and Sarah Ballantine won in California.

Ned Overend wins the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic in Durango.
Greg Lemond on the cover. Joe Murray wins the Pacific States Series. I covered bicycle racing, specifically but not exclusively mountain bike racing, for Winning. It’s easy money. The stories write themselves, All I had to do was check the spelling.
