While writing and publishing the Fat Tire Flyer, I also contributed articles for other cycling magazines such as Dirt Rag, Bicycling, Bicycle Guide, Cyclist, and bicycle magazines in other countries. After the Fat Tire Flyer went out of print, I accepted an editorial position from Rodale Press.

Greg Lemond on the cover. Joe Murray wins the Pacific States Series. I covered bicycle racing, specifically but not exclusively mountain bike racing, for Winning. It’s easy money. The stories write themselves, All I had to do was check the spelling.
I profiled Ned Overend for the beginning of the racing season. John Ross built excitement for the Pacific States Series.
This issue of Cyclist featured two articles about Charlie Cunningham, as well as my report on the 1984 National Cyclocross Championships.
This was the unreadable, least influential, and most useless of the trade magazines. They paid me to write shitty articles. Because I had no pride, I took their money. Here is one of those articles
