The Rough-Stuff Fellowship is an English off-road association that long predates mountain bikes. These riders were more into riding the bridle paths than bombing down hills, and their bikes were nowhere near as extreme as mountain bikes.
Gary Fisher and I joined the club in 1980, two of only four California members (Holland Jones was one of the others). I contributed the story of the Pearl Pass tour for this issue of the club newsletter.
